In late May, Sumter STEAM Charter School submitted a 256-page grant application for a Public Charter Schools Program (CSP) Planning and Implementation Subgrant. The board learned on Friday, July 17, that their grant was approved.
The application, including 12 grant narratives, a three-year budget, and appendix items requesting the maximum amount possible amount of $800,090. SSC has been awarded the full amount for its planning year (7/20-7/21) in the amount of $125,000 and conditionally awarded $436,445 for year one (7/21-7/22) and $238,645 for year two of its launch in continuation funding.
The highly competitive grant is awarded to start-up charter schools whose mission is to create a high-quality public charter school with an emphasis on serving educationally disadvantaged students.
The grant, funded by the United States Department of Education, authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act, and is administered by the SC Department of Education.
